I am currently a Basically Bare DT contender!!!
We sent in a general application with our info and a few of our favorite projects -- as our next step we've been challenged to create a blog post with our favorite BB pieces (3 to be exact) and some inspiration as to how we would finish said goodies!!
(long post.. but FULL of pictures and goodies.. make it to the end for the giveaway ;D)
We were steered towards the every favorite Scrapbook.com where they list TONS Of BB goodies! to pick our favorites.. and here goes:
I had a VERY hard time picking only 3. I wanted more like 13 or 14.. but I DID narrow it down to 3..
I'm a mixer and matcher at heart - I save scraps and hang onto the smallest of pieces - I pick up stuff of the ground to use... and so with that info.. the three products I've chosen I would combine to make one large project. BUT -- I've also got ideas for some of the "leftovers", too - (they're too GOOD to be leftovers, don't you think?!)
Starting out with THIS bad boy:
The WONKEY WINDOWS bare booklet
isn't it to die for?! I love the cutouts, of course the bare materials to work with!! Did you know BB does Canvas, chipboard, cardboard AND acrylic?! um.. HECK YES! plusssssss the acrylic is EMBOSSABLE. and we've all got our favorite folders!
But first... add in a bit of THIS:
The Bracket Booklet!!
Here's where my mixing and mistmatching comes in! I would mix the two books, take them apart at the binding.. mix up the pages and covers and bind them back together! However, knowing that the book would be quite large I'd leave out a few pages from each book. I just couldn't pick one or the other.. the brackets, the windows.. the canvas.. the chipboard.. the corrugated cardboard BEGGING to be torn.. the acrylic.. BEGGING to be embossed!
My main inspiration for this mini book :
GABE - my 13 month old - and when he gets a hold of my camera!! (or the cell phone) He snaps the WONKIEST most adorable photos.. at THIRTEEN MONTHS! (really I just think he's pushing buttons) pictures of the dog.. mama.. blurry photos of the carpet.. haha. I also have pictures of him TAKING pictures. so sort of a "Through the looking glass" thing! he is, also, quite the ham if you can't tell, lol.
and to just fit right in with my mini album/looking glass theme I chose THIS BB product:
The Paparazzi set of chipboard pieces!!
There may be no canvas or acrylic but there IS black chipboard to match the natural! and what does black have up on anything else? Embossing powders show up BRIGHT and FULL of color! but I'm getting ahead of myself.. ok ok.
First off.. Color palette!
I love turquoise.. gray and brown.. so.. these blue hues.. with a warmer gray. BEAUTIFUL. and it'll be subtle yet vibrant... perfect for my little boy. it will also go VERY nicely with the naturals of the Basically Bare materials raw! I can of course MAKE the inks/sprays/splatters in these colors easy peasy.. but I'm wondering what PAPER line would really match well! maybe Glitz Vintage blue.. though it does have that yellow.. hmmm.
Onto the next! Some things from my stash that will DEFINITELY make it into this album:
TH Film Reel Ribbon
TH Crackle Paint
TH Embossing Powders in various colors
Pink Paislee Daily Junque Wooden Alphas
TH Distress Ink in Various Colors
Some Wonderful images from Viva Las Vegastamps!:
Camera Camera!!!
(I'm thinking.. "the man behind the machine")
a pile o photos anyone?
And of course any various goodies I can find laying around!! I'm a big fan of fabric and ribbons/twines/laces.. for example... May Arts ribbon like this gorgeous dark brown jute:
and Burlap and Muslin:
I will ALSO have lots of handmade embellishments.. rolled paper and hat pins.. boyish flowers and dyed ribbons.. that's most of the fun to me.. CREATING :)
Most of my "already done" embellishments will be browns and grays... so I'm really hoping to find that turquoise and or turquoise and gray in patterned paper.. that's where you come (AND the GIVEAWAY) come in!!
Basically Bare is giving away a GIANT PRIZE package to one lucky commenter from all the DT Contender posts!! It includes their complete CHA release!! YAY!
-winner announced the 16th-
SOOO -- to make your commenting EASIER -- I need advice on the PAPER LINE to use in this project - do you know of one that has these colors? or comes close? TELL ME! pleeeeeeeease!
and.. if you so desire.. search out the other DT Contenders (sorry, I don't know who they are!) And comment on their posts, too! More chances to win :D
Also: I know I said I'd make projects out of the leftovers.. and it's because I can picture them already! The Bracket album spares would make beautifully shaped pieces for card bases.. and the left over cameras (if I have them) are perfect center points for altered canvases and or embellishments for a scrapbook page!!!
Hey D2, I wanna see the finished project! I haven't heard of Basically Bare, but I sure approve of your choices. I'm thinking the FP Winterland line has the colors you're looking for in it.
ReplyDeleteHey Dee Dee... check out a couple of Basic Grey lines. Piccadilly for the turquoise and Little Blog Dress for the Grays. What a great prize package. Good luck on making the team!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Together might work for the colors you're looking for... best of luck on the DT!
ReplyDeleteAwesome combination of stuff, can't wait to see the finished product. If you can get your hands on it by the time you need to have your finished product done, Note to Self by Echo Park looks like it might have all the colors you're looking for.
ReplyDeletelooks like good picks to me...can't wait to see your final projects...they surely will be inspirational!

ReplyDeleteKaisercraft has a couple of different lines that have a few of your colors, not exactly the whole package but quite a few of their lines use turquoises and browns. Hunt and Gather is a really masculine outdoorsy line that I can think of off the top of my head, although there are mustardy yellows and hunter greens in it too. After Five has the deep greys and blacks.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an awesome project! I would love to see the complete book. I would consider using "Summer's End" by Fancy Pants.
ReplyDeleteLove these ideas, and I can't wait to see pictures of the finished projects!!! Try one of these Bo Bunny packs - Welcome Home, Snowfall or Gabrielle (if you have any left). They have the turquoise, but might be more brown than you're looking for. GOOD LUCK!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat choices! You have some great ideas! I'm thinking you may have to apply that mix and match principal to the paper, as well...perhaps not all from the same line.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas - I know Hot of the Press has a Heritage Line - Browns, Blues, Grays that you may be interested in looking into. Can't wait to see your finished piece and Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteGreat products you picked, can't wait to see what you create!!! What about Graphic 45 tropical travelogue or some Tim Holtz idea-ology (lost and found or seasonal) rounded off with some plain bazzill paper for the missing colors!! Just in case some digital papers may fit the bill - http://store.scrapgirls.com/product/22173/Bird-Mail-Papers
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and good luck!!!
Gonna love it!! I have no idea about what products to use...hmm I just opened my Lost and Found by MME Portobello Road.
ReplyDeleteIt has lots of earthy blues and beiges.
I quite like this line.
Can't wait to see it finished!!!
This might be a little bolder than you envisioned, but the first paper collection that came to mind was Bo Bunny Mama Razzi, but I couldn't find a good photo of that line (it must be discontinued), but Bo Bunny Weekend Market also comes to mind. I cannot wait to see what you would create with any of these items. I must find that camera-shaped album. It is adorable and reminds me of the first camera I used as a child. Thanks for introducing me to Basically Bare. I'd never heard of them before.
ReplyDeleteDeeDee you NEED blue wood on paper and turquoise wood on paper - they're both On The Bright Side by My Minds Eye. Which makes me think of Wanted by Cosmo Cricket - although I highly doubt you'd be able to get that any more - it's turquoise/teal and brown though, not your grey. OK, on further investigation, there are a couple of grey sheets in the On The Bright Side collection as well - might be a bit of overkill though, I'd mix something else in there if I were you.
ReplyDeleteWelll.....LYB Winter twig has some good possibilities.... It has the grey/brown/teal going on...and fun wood grain papers and such. Some of the MME stella and rose fits, and some of the Bobunny snowfall fits. Good luck and will be fun to see this finished!!
ReplyDeleteHey DeeDee,
ReplyDeleteCheck out the "Journey" line by Authentique. It is turquoise blue and grays. Good luck with your project, it sounds like you have a great plan !!
Yes it is the deal right now on scrapbooksteals.com!
DeleteDeeDee, I can hardly wait to see the final product . . . love your choices. First, I was going to suggest "Winterland" by FP. But as I went thru my stash to see what else I could find, I came across "Marjolaine" by BG. I had forgotten all about this line and it has some yummy colors. "Snowfall" by BoBunny might work, too. Whatever you choose is going to be GREAT! Thanks for introducing Basically Bare to me as I had never heard of them before. Good luck!!!
ReplyDeleteKatherine C.
Continuing your mix and match style, I'd suggest mixing and matching the paper as well. For pops of specific colors, especially the blues, you may want to go w/solid card stock such as bazzil's turquoise. For patterned papers you may want to go w/a selection from G45's Steampunk Debutante, Prima's Nature Garden and/or their Ledger 3 pad. I think this paper would be an awesome addition, IF you could find it and you're willing to add some green: https://www.scrappinoutlet.com/html/productLargeImage.php?id=2239&c=3&li=
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing the finished project and Gabe's photo style. lol. Using his pics is such a fun idea for a project.
Good luck w/the DT try out. I know you'd be a great addition to their team!
What about Life Stories (blues) from My Minds Eye, Charming/ Times and Seasons from Echo Park, or Fancy Pants Happy Together?
ReplyDeleteCheck out Basic Grey's Piccadilly Line for that Turquoise that you're looking for. I know whichever company or line you choose to use will be perfect for your project. Wishing you the best of luck in your project for Basically Bare.

ReplyDeleteGood luck! Sounds like a great project. Those colors reminded me of Bo Bunny's weekend market.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to get my hands on a big package of Basically Bare goodies!
{And you might want to check into Authentique's Gathering collection for some beautiful aqua colors. My Mind's Eye has some great aqua/teal collections as well.}
Can't wait to see how your book turns out! I was thinking of MME So Sophie Charming. It has blues and some grays, along with greens, but could work :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
PS There's 2 in the swaps at CC right now!
DeleteI love the BB Et Cetera line and it may work with your color scheme also. I agree with the other posts too. My first thought was the Marjolaine line.

ReplyDeleteWow... you have so many creative ideas swirling around I can't wait to see what you do with everything! :) With those colors it seems like you could use one of the EP Winter collections... like Winter Park or Wintertime. :)
