Create Art by Jen Matott

I'm in a "Art Journal Swap" that trades journals and each person does a page in it following a theme that is set by the owner of the book.  It's fun to see what others have done in the book prior to you getting it but it's equally fun to create a page to pass on!
This book's owner left the theme up to each artist.  I just chose to create something mixed media with texture and color!  I wanted to keep my theme about art and creation.
I added a gorgeous UmWowStudio From the Heart flair to this page.  I used lots of circles here to create a uniform look.  However, I mixed up the textures and sizes of the circles.
Starting with some  book paper strips and then adding some stamped circles.  Some dimension was added with an UmWowStudio circle confetti stencil and Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Whipped Spackle.
Some close up details of my page...

I used Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos® in Steampunk Colors to create layers, drips, and spray.
I loved how this page turned out... it's hard to part with something like this but I can't wait to see all the fun pages in my journal that's coming back to me!

Spring Tag by Jen

Does it feel like Spring might never come to anyone else? It has snowed in Central New York for a month with 3-4 feet on the ground (actually up to my windows) and the air so cold it hurts to breathe when you step outside!  I am so ready for a warm up!  So to brighten my cold, dreary, winter day, I made a spring tag with some UmWow Studio lovelies.
I needed some gorgeous color so after priming the chip with Faber-Castell Design  Memory Craft Gesso, I added a rainbow of Gelatos®to the tag.  Gorgeous!
So pretty with the raised texture from the stencil and Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Whipped Spackle.   Adding some UmWow Studio Flower Confetti and Alphas to create a fun ode to Spring!

Doesn't that chip just look amazing with the colored Gelatos®?  Makes it all tie together (with some ribbon and canvas threads, of course).
So, HELLO winter... here's the "#Memo". We want Spring in the worst way!  Come on, pretty please?
A little bee flair to give it some more spring and we are done!  I'm displaying this prominently on my mantel to remind me that it will be here sooner or later... sooner please!

Dream a Little Dream Visual Journal Page with Jen Matott

Hi UmWow Studio fans!  I'm here to share a little tutorial on how to create with lots of fun textures and use UmWow Studio Mask/Stencils!  This visual journal page was done with the UmWowStudio Star Confetti Mask , Circle Confetti Mask, and Cicada Mask.

I used a Unity Stamp set that had a stitched look.  I added stars with the UmWow Studio Star Confetti Mask, Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Iced Chai Gelato® from the Steampunk color set, and Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Glass Bead Glitter Gel through the mask!   To apply the Gelato® color through the stencil, use a foam applicator to pick up some of the color from a non-stick craft mat.  Rub through the stencil in a circular motion.  It creates a soft effect.  I added a bit more through the Circle Confetti Mask in different colors.
Then, I used a palette knife to apply the Glass Bead Glitter Gel through the stencil and allowed it to dry.  You will know it's dry because it turns from white to clear in color.  Some dripped, watered-down Gelato® was added for more shimmer.
I used a Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft PITT Artist pen in a small tip to draw through the Cicada Mask!  I love this winged beauty!  I added a bit more scribble to it for interest.
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft introduced a new product at CHA and it is gorgeous on the UmWow Studio chip!  Texture Lux can be brushed on or built up with texture tools.  I just brushed it on in silver and gold on some UmWow Studio Star Confetti and Layered Star Chip.
Some Crate Paper rub ons were added and the Layered Star Chip was added last. I love working in layers in my journals.  Simple shapes can become very complex and show depth with lots of layers.
The theme of the page was Dreams and I wanted it to look sparkly and whimsical! Lots of layers create texture and a fun page!
I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial on how I created this page!  Thanks for visiting today!

To The Moon by Jen Matott

I have a quick and easy page to share with you today!  I created this page on New Year's Eve night before the night was over.  I had some scraps and confetti on my table and used what was in reach!
This photo of my boys is a favorite and I love them to the moon and back!

I started with a star stencil and some watered down Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Textural Accents Gesso.  I used a small spray bottle in the Gelato Mist Maker set and watered down the Gesso to spritz over the stencil.  Once it was dry, I used a Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Art Grip Pencil in white to scribble some circles.
I love the textured look of adding beads or other small things to Gel Medium.  I used Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gel Medium to mix with glass silver beads and applyed thickly to the page. I pressed some UmWowStudio Star Confetti chip into the wet Gel Medium.  This held them just fine!
Some words to finish my title and the shimmer of the beads and gesso make this page glow!

This page was done in under 40 mins!  I used scraps of paper and ribbon to complete it and it makes me happy!

What could you make with the scraps on your table right now?

New Year Snapshot by Jen Matott

I love New Year's Eve!  Even though I don't go out anymore to celebrate (truth be told, my family falls asleep before the ball drops!), I still love to celebrate with my kids and husband with a special dinner, silly hats, and noise makers.  We usually have a later dinner, dessert, confetti at 10:00 and then bedtime for the kids.  I stay up late scrapbooking or art making and sipping champagne.  This page is from our festivities last New Year's Eve.

For this page, I used the UmWow Studio Star Confetti Mask to create a background with Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos® color in Iced Chai and a foam dabber.
I love the UmWow Studio Documented Hashtag Banner Chip and popped it up with some dimensional foam dots.   Lots of UmWow Studio Star Confetti Chipboard was added to the star background to create dimension!

Some scribbles with Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Colored Pencils and PITT artist pens create a fun addition to this page.  I love the gold and chipboard together.

What kinds of New Year's traditions do you have in your family?

Feeling Blue Journal Page with Jen

P1020406
I have an art journal page to share with you today!  I used lots of Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft mediums and Gelatos® colors along with a few of the adorable Layered Chipboard clouds.  Unfortunately, I was so into making this page, I forgot to take too many in progress photos!
P1010830I started with Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Whipped Spackle and used a palette knife from our Gelatos Tool Set to smear some around to create "clouds".  It keeps it's shape and won't flatten down after drying.  I also love the resist that it gives to wet media.
When that was dry, I added Gelatos® colors in Blueberry, Metallic Blueberry , Bosenberry and  Double Scoop® Snow Cone to the page. I had made a Gelatos® mist with the Metallic Blueberry and Bosenberry to create a shimmer and an even application.
P1020400The other colors were added to the top of the page and water was added with a brush to allow drippage (my favorite technique)! I love how the Whipped Spackle allows the color to puddle and change over it.  When that was dry, I added stamped letters using a Stamper's Big Brush Pen in Cool Grey
P1020402 Finally, I added the UmWowStudio layered chipboard clouds and filled or covered them with the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Glass Bead Glitter Gel.  It gives them the right amount of sparkle and shine!  When dry, it allows the color underneath to show through too!  I love these layered chipboard pieces with their open spaces to fill with fun mediums!
The quote I used for this page was one from a 7 year old!  I found it online and it was perfect for this page! That 7 year old was so wise.  It says:
"If you are feeling blue,
try painting yourself a different color!"
P1020405
I love that I can use ALL of my Gelatos® colors any time I want!!!  It just depends on my mood!
What color are you feeling lately?
