This Happened with Manda

Hi everyone, Manda here and today is my last day to post for Um Wow as part of the Design Team. I have loved being part of a team with so many talented ladies and working with some wonderful products, I will definitely be sad to go but cannot wait to see what the new team makes to inspire us with.

For my last project I decided to get messy with some mixed media. Starting with a plain piece of aqua cardstock I first added a thin layer of gesso and then used two 12x12 stencils (both heidi swap) a sunburst which I misted with Citron Color Shine and a hexagon with I used a blue Mister Huey mist.

After that I took a small Heidi Swapp stencil and used Tim Holtz distress ink to make bold triangles. I also added some random stamping with a Glitz roller stamp. To finish the background off I took my gelatos and added colour around the edge. 

Once my background was done I used the Hexagon Background chip and layered my papers and photos on top. When I placed the chipboard I didn't think about the balance of the page so I then had a gap on the right hand side. To fill in that space I took one of the Avery Elle stamps we recently worked with and stamped in Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I used the Arrow Title Mash chip for my title, this is one of my favourite sets I use all the time. To finish off I used a flair from the Oh Places You'll Go set.

Hello, Manda here again today with another travel layout. I have been going through my old photos and trying to sort out an album about my trip to Europe almost 10 years ago. I am really loving looking back at all the wonderful places I went and hope to see some of them again one day. 

This layout is about a view from a hill where I went on a picnic so the page absolutely needed journalling so I could remember why I had this picture (I do not do a lot of journaling in general but I am trying to add more especially to older pictures.) I wanted to frame my photo and I love the little Make A Wish Pocket Chip frame but it was too small and the wrong shape for my photo but I wasn't going to let that stop me so I carefully cut each corner with my exacto knife. The great thing about the chipboard pieces is that if you want to cut them it is very easy even though the pieces are very strong.

To keep with the travel theme I used one of the Oh The Places You'll Go flair which I have been using right through my Europe pages. I journaled directly onto the page and because the background paper is rather busy I need to draw attention to it so I took a piece of the Arrow Title Mash to draw attention to it. I didn't alter the chipboard in any way because I liked how it drew the colours of the little village out of the photo.

Hi everyone Manda here today sharing a quick layout about my favourite shoes! Seriously these are the most comfortable, cutest shoes I have ever owned so they needed a layout about them.

I kept the layout itself very simple because of the mosaic tiles in the picture, using a lot of patterned papers and layers would have made the page very busy and I loved the pattern of the tiles so made that the focal point. I started out by using watercolours to put a light wash over the white cardstock and then just added some washi tape as a background.
I decided gold was going to be the main colour of this page because of the photo overlay I used so I simply took some Heidi Swapp Gold Lame Color Shine and a paint brush and painted it directly onto the chipboard pieces I used. It leaves a lovely gold shimmer that looks like metal.

I used the ribbon to add some texture to the page both by layering it under a stamped banner and ruching it with my sewing machine and tucking under the photo. I have created a layout using lots of goodies :) 7 Dots Studio Nature Walk paper is a background for gorgeous UmWowStudio chipboard pieces and flairs, beautiful May Arts ribbons and wonderful Avery Elle stamps. I have started with stamping using Texture Tiles: Be Cool stamp set (http://www.averyelle.com/texture-tiles-be-cool-photopolymer-stamps/) from Avery Elle. Than I have used UmWowStudio Line of Chevrons mask (http://umwowstudio.com/masks/100091.html). Stamps and mask matched perfectly and I decided to add even more perfection :) so I have used UmWowStudio Chevron confetti chipboard (http://umwowstudio.com/chipboard/confetti/100041.html).

Rainy Days by Manda

Hi there, it's Manda here today to share a new layout with you.

I wanted to scrap this instagram photo I took of the rain on the windscreen of the car because I loved the way it looked. I wanted the page to represent a rainy day so I started out with a sheet of light blue paper that had a watercolour effect and then I used the Line of Chevrons Mask and some modelling paste to create some texture. Next I took some grey acrylic paint and added some silver Pearl Ex.

Once my background was complete I used various papers and layered under the photo. I wanted to keep the grey theme so I took some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Tinsel and painted onto my large Make Note Frame, because of the "shine" in the ink it created a metallic look to the chipboard.

I also did the same to a piece of the Layered Banners and Layered Arrows. I love the Life Is Good Flair but I felt it needed something else so I took a stamp and some Staz On ink and stamped it. I really like how it turned out and it was easy to get a good image because of the size and flatness of the flair. 

Finally I added some more stamping and embellishments as well as my title. My title was a bit too long to put across the bottom of the frame so instead of the word love I used a piece from my Heart Confetti and coloured it with black ink.

King Parrots by Manda

Hi everyone, Manda here today and I am sharing a layout I made based on this month's sketch challenge.

I have recently started hanging seed bells in our yard to attract native birds and last week I was lucky enough to catch two beautiful King Parrots in the act of nibbling at one. I really love how the photo came out so I decided it would be great as a large feature photo like the one used in the sketch. 

Because of the bright colours of the birds I wanted to use a neutral paper as a base and add some some pops of colour so the photo was the main focus. I started with a pop of red Color Shine and then I used the Star Confetti Mask to add some subtle patterns around two corners of the photo and added the Star Confetti to give it some dimension.

I also added a piece of the Everyday Speech Bubbles which was a fun touch.

To balance out the speech bubble I added a piece of the Layered Arrows and of course the layout wouldn't be complete without some flair and I added a piece from my favourite - Mustard 29 Flair.

Let's move forward with our fabulous week o' celebration!!

Day 1 this week started off with an introduction to some of our brand new products! And today we're sharing some beautiful inspiration by our talented design team and a giveaway... but first: 

Up today is Manda with two superb celebration themed cards>

Birthday Card:

For this card I used the Banner Mash. I painted the larger pieces in gold and then inked the smaller pieces with my chalk edger then topped them with some enamel dots. The background was made using the Star Confetti Mask which I inked with my Versa Mark ink pad and then embossed in white. Next I took my distress inks and a dauber to give it a rainbow hue. 

Make A Wish Card:

I made this little card into a filler card for my Project Life album. To start off I covered the Make A Wish Pocket Chip card with gesso, then I used a mixture of Gelatos to give it an ombre wash. Next I took some of the Star Confetti and covered with Versa Mark and embossed with gold embossing powder.

And Miae with the most adorable personalized little card:
