tag tutorial by Tusia Lech

Hello bloggers :)

Today I would like to show you two tags and a little tutorial, how I created them.

I used 2 tags, I have created once using Gelli Plate and gorgeous UmWowStudio stencils - Checker Board mask and Cicada mask

If you would like to watch the process, here is the video - please watch the very first minute of it:

I altered chipboard pieces (Leaf Stems and Wild Lilies) using some media.

At first I applied white gesso.

Then I applied Finnabair Soft Gloss Gel using palette knife and....

...and sprinkled Finnabair yellow glitter.

When everything dried, I sprayed chipboard with Chalk Glimmer Mist.

I distressed the edges of the tags using distress ink and started to put all elements together.

Here is the final effect and some close-ups:

A Favorite Quote Mixed Media Canvas

Hello and Happy Thursday!  Tina here today a Mixed Media canvas, using a favorite quote.

Creating mixed media projects shouldn't be difficult or require complicated techniques.  The canvas I would like to share with you today uses basic techniques, yet creates a unique and personalized project.

Texture is the key to mixed media.  Texture can be created by multiple mediums: paint, ink, paste, gels, paper, stamps, stencils and 3D items.  The background of my canvas was created using paste, stencil, ad watercolor paints.

Using the Checkerboard mask,  apply modeling paste to your pre-gesso'd canvas.  Once the paste is dry, randomly apply Shimmerz Inklingz to the canvas.  Let the colors mix and blend creating a beautiful, shimmery background.

Randomly stamp the background for contrast.

Prep your chipboard embellishments with gesso and let dry.

Chipboard used:
Alpha One
Water Faucet
Heart Confetti

Paint with your favorite product.  I used Shimmerz Inklingz and paints.

For more glitz, I added glitter to the inside section of each heart chip.

Finish off the edge of your canvas with washi tape and several strings of twine.

And this is it.  Done just like that.  Not complicated, but unique and personalized.

I hope you enjoyed by quote canvas today!  Thanks for stopping by!

Pretty in Pink

Hello all,

Today's layout is about my youngest daughter's love of pink. She is a princess-y kind of girl, through and through (despite her extremely un-princess-y mother and sister).

Of course I had to use some UmWowStudio Layered Butterflies but I also wanted to grunge it up a bit. I wanted to make them look vintage and metallic. What do you think?

The chipboard are so sturdy! Adding layers of acrylic paint and heat (to get the texture) was no problem.

I also texturized the Hexagon Background with some fiber paste and texturized the background with the Checkerboard Mask and heavy gesso.

That Wild Flower flair went so well with this page. I just had to emphasize it with some dark brown twine from May Arts.

Have a creative day!

How About a Little Happy This Monday!

Hello all!

Is it Monday already? Well, how about a page to put a smile on your face! I followed along with this month's sketch...it's a fantastic starting point to fill your head with ideas! Here's my girl, happy as can be and I think she's even striking a little pose....

I pulled out a bunch of my UmWowStudio goodies here :) For the background I used:

UWS Circle Confetti Mask
UWS Herringbone Mask
UWS Checker Board Mask

To create embellishments, I used several chipboard pieces:

And since I got my inspiration from the September sketch, I just had to throw in a flair (which coincidentally matched perfectly with Alpha Two!):

Hope that put a little happy in your day!

Discover Hidden Creatures

creature, allassiter, UWS full Hello! It's Amy here today, to share a layout I made, with a fun, whimsical and lighthearted feel!just imagine, stenciling
I started by creating my background with mists and watercolors/watercolor pencils. I laid down the harlequin mask, and used black ink to give some contrast. To give some texture, I used the checkerboard mask, and rubbed on some 13 Arts gesso (it's nice and textural/substantial) using my fingers. Adding watercolor over the gesso (once dry) gave a little splash of color as well.

gnome and reeds
After layering up some papers and fibers, I began to embellish. I painted the cat tails chipboard pieces, adding some moss underneath for a natural look, as well as flowers and the beautiful embellishments, like the dragonflies and bird nest. All of these (and the papers) were in July's Scraps of Darkness kit, "Believe."

flowers and reeds I love how this layout shows my quirkiness (I painted myself as a fox for Halloween last year), and my love for gnomes and other great fantasy woodland creatures. :) Thanks for having a look today, and lots of artsy crafty gnome sparkle blessings are being sent to you! Loves, Amy

Guest CT Member : Michele Kosciolek

Hey folks! :)
Today we have SUPER FAN Michele Kosciolek visiting us with a superb altered book! I'll let her take over form here ;)

Michele here and I am an aunt, a daughter, a sister, a friend and an UBER fan of Um Wow Studio!  Born and raised in Michigan, I found my way back almost 8 years ago after living in California for over 15 years.  I think someday I will find myself back in California but no matter where I land I LOVE to create!!!

A very dear friend of mine lost his father recently and asked me to do something special with an old photo.  I have been waiting for the perfect idea to come to me and it finally did...I used a vintage book to create a frame for the photo.

It's worth waiting for - Tusia Lech

Hello folks :)

I created art-journal page, which was an inner must for me :):):) For me art-journal is the most emotional form of expression. I am very emotional person and putting my emotions into colors, shapes and words is something absolutely necessary to me :)

I started with background. At first I used 5 colors of Gelatos. Then I used UmWowStudio Checker Board Mask with Gel Medium on one side and Butterfly Swarm Mask with Inka Gold Metallic Rub on the other.

When it dried, I started adding stamping (7 Dots Studio sets from Cold Country and Illumination collection) with white ink.

Heart String chipboard (which I love) was covered with white and red embossing powder.

I have used also tags (among them 7 Dots Studio Nature Walk) and UmWowStudio Dream a Little Dream badge was a cherry on a top.

Have a great day!!

fun - art journal

Hello UmWowStudio fans :)

Here is Tusia Lech with art-journal.

I would like to show you couple photos, how I created it.

At first I cut cardboard and white, blank canvas to create front and back cover.

Then I started to glue down some canvas stripes using Gel Medium. I used Checker Board Mask to create a pattern.

I started adding colors with Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays and gorgeous chipboard pieces from Gear Mash set.

Again I have used Gel Medium and UmWowStudio Checker Board Mask.

And then I started stamping (Avery Elle stamp set and 7 Dots Studio stamp set)

And here are some close-ups of finished covers:

And back cover:
